The Secret of Order: Why Should We Forget Toy Boxes?
It’s a familiar situation: you buy a large, beautiful toy box, throw everything inside in the evening, but in the morning, the child turns everything out onto the floor in a second, yet doesn’t actually play with anything.
Why does this happen? The answer is simple: for a child, a toy box is a “toy graveyard.” When items are piled on top of each other, the child cannot see them, experiences “visual noise,” and the only way to find something is to dump everything out.
The Montessori method offers a solution: open shelves. Here’s why this is crucial for your child’s development:
1. Freedom of Choice and Focus
When toys are arranged on “Gogora” open shelves, the child sees each one of them. They can consciously approach, take a specific item, and begin to play.
Studies show that the fewer toys in a child’s field of vision, the longer and more qualitatively they play with each one. An open shelf encourages concentration.
2. “A Place for Everything”
Learning order is impossible if order has no structure. Throwing things into a box is not tidying; it is hiding.
Why an open shelf? When a child sees that a teddy bear always sits in the lower left corner of the shelf, they learn to predict the environment. After finishing play, it is much easier for them to return the item to its “home” than to drop it into a huge box. This is how the love of order is born without coercion.
3. Aesthetics and Peace
A home where toys are beautifully arranged on shelves creates a much calmer environment for both the child and the parent. Natural wood shelves do not clutter the interior and add a sense of airiness to the room.
💡 Tip: Toy Rotation
If you have many toys, do not try to arrange everything on the shelf. Use the principle of rotation:
- Bring out only 6-8 toys/activities onto the “Gogora” open shelf.
- Keep the rest in a place inaccessible to the child.
- Once every 1-2 weeks, change the items on the shelf with new ones. Result: the child always has interest, toys do not get boring, and the room remains constantly tidy.
Why “Gogora” Open Shelves?
Our shelves are designed with the child’s height and safety in mind:
- Accessibility: The child does not need help; they control their own space. ·
- Stability: The shelves are sturdy and eliminate the risk of tipping over.
- Eco-friendliness: Clean wood and a safe surface—ideal for items the child touches every day.
Say goodbye to toy chaos and give your child a space where every item tells its own story.
